Overview

Do you enjoy working with children?  Do you have the skills to support their learning and development? Have you got a ‘can-do’ approach and outlook?  At Green Ridge Primary Academy, we are looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant who will work as part of our inclusion staff team, within Early Years initially, to support individual and small groups of children with additional learning needs in their learning and development.  We are looking for someone who is up for getting stuck in to all aspects of academy life!

About us

Green Ridge Academy will be a new primary school built on Berryfields, opening in September 2017 in temporary accommodation on the site of the permanent building.  The academy will initially have an intake of 60 children into our Reception class this September with an additional Key Stage 1 class.  The permanent school building is due to open for September 2018.  The school will then grow year-on-year with a Nursery.  The school will initially have a capacity for over 450 children, but is being built with the additional capacity to extend to a three-form entry school with just over 650 children.

The academy now has a Headteacher and Head of Early Years who are looking to appoint staff to open the academy with and join them in being part of the unique opportunity to build and grow the school from its infancy.  There is no doubt about it, setting up the academy from scratch will take vision, dedication and hard-work, but being part of that exciting and rare journey will be very rewarding to see the academy take shape over the next few years.  To see more information about the school, including design plans of the school, please visit our website www.greenridgeacademy.co.uk

About the role

As a member of the academy’s inclusion support staff team you will be responsible for supporting the development of children with additional needs, supporting their knowledge, understanding and skills across all areas of learning.  This may be supporting children on a one-to-one basis, supporting small groups or delivering interventions and additional support to children as needed.  Initially this will be within one of the Early Years Foundation Stage or Key Stage 1 class, but over time may include supporting children with additional needs throughout the academy, as required.  The role also includes supervising children during break and lunchtimes, both on the playground and in the dining room.  SEN Teaching Assistants work closely with the Class Teacher with whom they are based daily, and the Inclusion Leader.

What we’re looking for

We welcome applications from candidates with experience from educational or other relevant childcare backgrounds. The successful candidate will be expected to either hold, or be prepared to undertake if needed, a full and relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare as required to work flexibly across the Early Years classes and Nursery as the academy grows.  We also welcome applications for graduates who are looking to gain experience before enrolling onto a teacher-training programme.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and/or a good understanding of the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 curriculum
  • A good understanding of the range of additional needs that pupils can have and how best to support them
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider team
  • The ability to work on initiative
  • A ‘can-do’ approach to all aspects of academy life
  • A willingness to undertake professional development and grow their skills
  • Excellent communication skills and a good sense of humour

In return we can offer:

  • A commitment to you and your professional development
  • Friendly, supportive, enthusiastic and hardworking colleagues, staff and Governors
  • A growing learning community
  • Encouragement to develop new ideas and the opportunity to make a real difference
