Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Sir Martin Frobisher Academy

Welcome to EYFS

The Early Years Foundation Stage at Sir Martin Frobisher Academy provides a nurturing and inspiring start to your child’s educational journey. We offer a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment where children feel happy, valued, and eager to learn.

Our EYFS provision supports children as they begin school, helping them to build confidence, develop key skills, and form positive relationships.

Our Learning Approach

In EYFS, learning is play-based, hands-on, and tailored to each child’s individual needs and interests. We recognise that every child develops at their own pace, and we provide a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities.

We focus on:

  • Developing communication and language skills
  • Encouraging personal, social, and emotional development
  • Building early literacy and mathematical understanding
  • Promoting curiosity, creativity, and exploration

The Curriculum

Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and is organised into seven areas of learning:

Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Learning is delivered through engaging activities, indoor and outdoor play, and carefully planned experiences that encourage exploration and discovery.

Learning Through Play

Play is central to learning in EYFS. Children learn best when they are actively engaged, exploring their interests, and making sense of the world around them. Our environment is designed to inspire curiosity and independence.

Early Reading and Phonics

We introduce early phonics skills to help children begin their reading journey. Through fun and interactive sessions, children learn to recognise sounds, blend words, and develop a love of books.

Working in Partnership with Parents

We believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential. We work closely with parents and carers to support each child’s development and share their learning journey.

Parents and carers can support their child by:

  • Reading regularly at home
  • Talking about their day and experiences
  • Encouraging play, exploration, and curiosity

A Supportive Environment

Our EYFS setting is warm, welcoming, and inclusive. We place a strong emphasis on well-being, ensuring children feel safe, secure, and ready to learn.

Preparing for Year 1

The EYFS provides the foundation for future learning. By the end of the year, children are confident, independent, and ready to transition into Year 1 with the skills and enthusiasm needed for continued success.
