Music Curriculum at Sir Martin Frobisher Academy
Inspiring a Love of Music
At Sir Martin Frobisher Academy, we believe that music is a powerful form of expression that brings creativity, confidence, and enjoyment to all pupils. Our aim is to inspire a lifelong love of music while developing key musical skills and appreciation of different styles and cultures.
We provide an engaging and inclusive music curriculum that allows every child to participate, perform, and succeed.
Our Approach to Music
We follow the Kapow Primary music scheme to support high-quality teaching and learning across the school. This ensures clear progression of knowledge and skills from Early Years through to Year 6.
Through this approach, pupils:
- Develop confidence in performing and expressing themselves
- Learn to listen to and appraise a range of music
- Explore rhythm, pitch, tempo, and dynamics
- Compose and create their own music
- Gain an understanding of different musical traditions
Lessons are practical, interactive, and designed to be enjoyable for all learners.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage, music is part of the “Expressive Arts and Design” area of learning.
Children are encouraged to:
- Sing songs and rhymes
- Explore sounds using instruments
