Mental Health and Wellbeing at Sir Martin Frobisher Academy
Supporting Happy, Healthy Minds
At Sir Martin Frobisher Academy, we place a strong emphasis on supporting the mental health and wellbeing of all our pupils. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, valued, and emotionally supported.
Our approach ensures that every child is given the tools and support they need to understand their feelings, build resilience, and develop positive relationships.
Our Approach to Wellbeing
We support mental health and wellbeing through our PSHE curriculum, using the Jigsaw PSHE scheme. This provides a structured and progressive approach to developing emotional literacy, resilience, and wellbeing across all year groups.
Through this approach, pupils:
- Learn to understand and manage their emotions
- Build confidence and self-esteem
- Develop positive relationships with others
- Learn strategies to cope with challenges
- Feel supported and valued within the school community
Promoting Positive Mental Health
We aim to create a whole-school environment where mental health is openly discussed and supported. Pupils are encouraged to:
- Talk about their feelings
- Recognise and manage emotions
- Develop a positive mindset
- Support one another
We promote kindness, respect, and inclusion throughout the school.
Wellbeing Through the Curriculum
Mental health and wellbeing are woven throughout school life, including:
- PSHE lessons
- Daily Mile routines
- Circle time and discussions
- Mindfulness and relaxation activities
These opportunities help children to build self-awareness and emotional understanding.
Targeted Support
We recognise that some pupils may need additional support with their wellbeing. We provide:
- Small group interventions
- One-to-one support where appropriate
- Access to pastoral support
- A nurturing and supportive environment
Support is tailored to meet individual needs, ensuring every child can thrive.
Building Resilience
A key focus of our wellbeing provision is helping children to develop resilience. Pupils are supported to:
- Manage challenges and setbacks
- Develop problem-solving skills
- Build confidence in their abilities
- Learn from experiences
These skills help prepare children for future challenges both in and out of school.
Working in Partnership with Parents
We believe that supporting mental health is a shared responsibility. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure children receive consistent support.
Parents and carers can support their child by:
- Talking openly about feelings
- Encouraging positive routines
- Promoting a balanced lifestyle
- Seeking support when needed
Creating a Supportive Environment
At Sir Martin Frobisher Academy, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child feels:
- Valued and respected
- Supported and understood
- Confident to express themselves
Our Commitment
We are dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of every pupil. Through our use of the Jigsaw scheme and a whole-school approach, we ensure that children develop the emotional skills they need to lead happy, healthy, and successful lives.
