Online Learning at Sir Martin Frobisher Academy
Supporting Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Sir Martin Frobisher Academy, we recognise the important role that online learning plays in supporting and enhancing children’s education. Our carefully selected digital platforms provide engaging, interactive opportunities for pupils to practise key skills, build confidence, and develop independence.
Online learning complements classroom teaching and helps pupils to reinforce their knowledge in a fun and accessible way.
Our Online Learning Platforms
We use a range of high-quality platforms to support learning at home and in school:
Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)
Times Tables Rock Stars is a fun and engaging programme designed to help children develop rapid recall of multiplication facts. Through game-based challenges and regular practice, pupils improve their speed and accuracy, building a strong foundation for success in mathematics.
Regular use of TTRS is particularly important for pupils preparing for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check.
NumBots
NumBots focuses on developing strong number sense and addition and subtraction skills. Aimed particularly at younger pupils, it helps children build fluency and confidence with basic number facts through interactive games and challenges.
NumBots provides an excellent foundation for later mathematical learning, supporting pupils in becoming confident and flexible mathematicians.
To support early reading and phonics, we use Oxford Owl, an award-winning online learning platform developed by Oxford University Press. Oxford Owl provides a wide range of engaging resources for children and parents, including:
- eBooks matched to reading levels
- Phonics guidance and activities
- Tips to support reading, English, and maths at home
Phonics is a key part of early reading, helping children understand the relationship between letters and sounds and how to blend them to read words. By using Oxford Owl, families can support their child’s reading journey in a structured and enjoyable way.
In our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), we use Tapestry, a secure online learning journal designed specifically for early education. Tapestry allows us to:
- Record and celebrate children’s learning through photos, videos, and observations
- Track development across the EYFS framework
- Share progress with parents in real time
- Build strong partnerships between home and school
Parents can access their child’s learning journey at any time and contribute by adding comments or sharing achievements from home. This helps create a complete picture of each child’s development and supports their individual learning journey.
Bedrock Learning
Bedrock Learning is an online platform that supports vocabulary development and reading comprehension. Through carefully designed lessons, pupils are introduced to new words in context, helping them to improve their understanding across all subjects.
Regular use of Bedrock supports reading, writing, and overall academic achievement by strengthening language skills.
Expectations for Pupils
We encourage all pupils to engage regularly with online learning platforms as part of their home learning routine. Teachers may set specific tasks or recommend activities to support classroom learning.
Pupils should:
- Log in regularly and complete assigned activities
- Take pride in their progress and achievements
- Use online tools responsibly and safely
Supporting Your Child at Home
Parents and carers play a key role in supporting online learning. You can help your child by:
- Encouraging regular use of learning platforms
- Celebrating progress and achievements
- Providing a quiet space for focused learning
- Ensuring safe and appropriate use of technology
Online Safety
Keeping children safe online is a priority. Pupils are taught how to use technology responsibly and how to stay safe online. We encourage families to reinforce these messages at home by supervising usage and discussing online safety. For more information about online safety, please click here.
Access and Support
All pupils are provided with login details for each platform. If you experience any difficulties accessing online learning, please contact the school office or your child’s class teacher for support.
