PSHE & RHE at Sir Martin Frobisher Academy
Supporting the Whole Child
At Sir Martin Frobisher Academy, we believe that education is about more than academic success. Our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) and RHE (Relationships and Health Education) curriculum supports pupils in developing the knowledge, skills, and understanding they need to lead safe, healthy, and happy lives.
We aim to nurture confident, respectful, and responsible individuals who are well prepared for life in modern Britain.
Our Approach
We deliver PSHE through the Jigsaw PSHE scheme and RHE through the Christopher Winter Project scheme. Together, these provide a comprehensive and age-appropriate curriculum across all year groups.
Through this approach, pupils:
- Develop emotional literacy and resilience
- Learn how to build positive relationships
- Understand how to stay safe and healthy
- Gain knowledge about the wider world
- Build confidence and self-esteem
Lessons are engaging, inclusive, and delivered in a safe and supportive environment.
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education)
Our PSHE curriculum supports pupils in developing key life skills and understanding important aspects of everyday life.
Topics include:
- Being part of a community
- Celebrating differences and diversity
- Dreams and goals
- Healthy lifestyles
- Relationships and friendships
- Changing and growing
Pupils are encouraged to reflect, discuss, and share their thoughts in a respectful and supportive setting.
RHE (Relationships and Health Education)
RHE is an important part of our curriculum and is taught in an age-appropriate way using the Christopher Winter scheme.
Children learn about:
- Building positive and respectful relationships
- Families and different types of relationships
- Keeping safe, including online safety
- Physical and emotional health
- Growing and changing
All lessons are delivered sensitively and with consideration for the age and maturity of the pupils.
A Safe and Supportive Environment
We ensure that PSHE and RHE lessons are taught in a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment. Pupils are encouraged to:
- Ask questions
- Share ideas and opinions
- Respect the views of others
Clear ground rules are established to help children feel comfortable and supported.
Promoting Wellbeing and Safety
Our PSHE and RHE curriculum supports pupils to:
- Understand and manage their emotions
- Develop resilience and coping strategies
- Make safe and informed choices
- Recognise and respond to risks
This helps children to feel confident and prepared for different situations in life.
Working in Partnership with Parents
We value the important role of parents and carers in supporting children’s personal development. We aim to work in partnership with families and keep them informed about the curriculum.
Parents and carers can support their child by:
- Talking openly about feelings and relationships
- Reinforcing positive values and behaviours
- Supporting healthy routines and wellbeing
Information about RHE content is shared with parents, and we welcome any questions or discussions.
Assessment and Progress
PSHE and RHE are assessed through ongoing observation and participation. Teachers consider:
- Engagement in discussions
- Understanding of key concepts
- Personal development and behaviour
This ensures that all pupils are supported in their personal and social development.
